This circular tour starts in the picturesque coastal town of Tropea and initially leads with small climbs and a long descent along the Tyrrhenian coast to Joppolo .
This is where the challenging climb begins: For approximately 10 kilometers, the road winds its way up Monte Poro in smooth switchbacks. With an average gradient of 7–8% and magnificent views of the sea, this section is the athletic heart of the tour.
Once at the top, the landscape opens up: vast plateaus, olive groves, and hardly any traffic – Calabria reveals itself here in its most authentic form. There's a reason why there's no traffic, at least in April 2025: the road is closed due to several landslides.
Just before the top, half the road is missing. The route runs through the quiet hinterland before a winding descent leads back towards the sea.
In Zambrone the tour ends again on the coast – perfect for a break on the beach or a relaxing end in one of the small cafés.
Conclusion: A short but intense tour with a strong blend of sea views, mountain atmosphere, and solitude. Ideal for anyone who wants to explore Calabria through sport and scenery.
